Navionics SonarCharts Keep Getting Better

Screenshot_2015-01-26-10-58-27In the Navionics Boating app the SonarPhone feature allows you to have a fishfinder on your screen and create your own personal HD bathymetry map with SonarCharts Live!

The fishfinder feature enables you to view live sonar and Navionics charts, both full screen and split screen, within the same app from your kayak, runabout, or any fishing boat! Every time you connect, future SonarCharts can be enhanced with depth data from anywhere you go.

Even better, SonarCharts Live allows you to create a new personal HD bathymetry map that displays on your device in real-time while navigating. The new chart appears as an additional layer over either Nautical Charts or SonarCharts. Data is saved for individual use and can be shared with Navionics to improve SonarCharts.

What you need

To enjoy the fishfinder feature, you need the latest version of the Navionics Boating app on your Android or Apple Tablet or Smartphone and the SonarPhone T-BOX hardware which is available for purchase here.

To create maps with SonarCharts Live in the free app version, you need to make sure you purchase a Navionics+ package from Menu > Charts & Upgrades. If you have a paid version, you don’t need anything else.

Getting Started                                                                                                                            SonarPhone T-BOX

– Install the SonarPhone T-BOX device on your boat. Turn on the SonarPhone T-BOX.

– From your mobile, connect to the Wi-Fi network: Settings>Wi-Fi ON and select the “T-BOX” Network. When prompted, enter the Wi-Fi password provided to join. See the video.

– Open the Navionics Boating app. The fishfinder display will automatically appear along with SonarCharts Live creating your new personal HD bathymetry map!

With the powerful SP200 T-BOX system, you can reach depths of 240 feet with a 200kHz, Dual-Beam (20/40 degree) skimmer style transducer and temp sensor. The Skimmer style transducer can be mounted externally on the transom of your boat for high speed use or internally in fiberglass hulls, but you will lose the temp sensor option for in-hull installations.

Also included in the SP200 package is a 12 volt car plug/USB adaptor for powering your tablets or re-charging your phones

Navionics SonarCharts Live

Navionics and Vexilar have teamed up with their smartphone apps recently and this week they have announced a new product called SonarCharts Live.  This incorporates the depth data gathered from the Vexilar T-Box into the Navionics Boating App to produce accurate real time charting on your tablet or phone.

It will create or update charts for any body of water even if it is not listed on a map. Best of all this is available at a very inexpensive price tag.  Download the app and then order the Vexilar SP200 and you are all set to start making your own custom charts.

A couple other accessories for your tablet to check out are bluetooth GPS receivers and RAM mount cradles.

Navionics SonarCharts Now Available on Lowrance and Simrad

soanrcharts

Have you owned a Lowrance, Simrad or B&G for some time? If so, you can create greatly enhanced SonarCharts™ of your favorite boating areas with almost no effort at all!

In fact, Lowrance, Simrad and B&G models automatically store sonar data by default during everyday use, so unless you have turned trails off, the whole library of sonar logs recorded since day one may be residing on the plotter’s memory. All you have to do now is export from your chartplotter to your Navionics card and upload to our website. Once sonar logs are saved on a card, it can be plugged into a computer and the data is transferred to Navionics through the internet to generate new SonarCharts™ for you and other boaters after about one week.

Here is how: http://www.navionics.com/en/plotter-tutorial/lowrance. You can print these instructions before you go to your boat or read them on your phone while you are onboard next to your sonar.

Only Navionics accepts sonar logs from all major brands including most models of Humminbird (DAT and GPX on all models, GPX only on ION and Onix), Raymarine (SDF, NMEA, GPX) and Garmin (ADM). Check http://www.navionics.com/en/compatibility. Boaters can choose to share all of their logs at once or they can record and export specific files. Learn more about SonarCharts™ and find tutorials on how to record sonar logs.

On GPS plotters, it’s included with Navionics+, Platinum+, and HotMaps Platinum for compatible plotters. Owners of any Gold, Silver, Marine & Lakes USA, and HotMaps Premium cards can have it with Navionics Updates.

Navionics SonarCharts Mapping Enhancements

Now available through Navionics Freshest Data updating program is Navionics SonarCharts. SonarCharts provides an alternative perspective for boaters and fishermen who want more detailed depth contours for safer navigation or for targeting productive fishing areas.

We all ask for better cartography. We all want the latest data. Now you can contribute and see the new details the next day. Buoys change, sand bars shift, new rocks and submerged structures are discovered every day. So why not see them all with SonarCharts?  The best part of all is it is a completely FREE service.  All you need to participate in this program is a Platinum Navionics chart.

Simply upload your sonar logs and within 24 hours the new bathimetric data is on your Platinum chart after using Freshest Data.

It’s fast and easy:

  • Record sonar using your GPS chart plotter
  • Upload sonar logs to the Navionics World Application
  • Navionics integrates the new data with existing data
  • Download New SonarCharts within 24 hours!

Even if your favorite lake is not mapped you can now go out, record your sonar data and create maps for that body of water.  This process will take a little longer than the 24hrs that the standard process takes.  In order to participate in this program all you need is a Platinum Navionics chart.
