2013-sportToday kicks of the great Toronto Sportsman Show, back at the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibtion Place in Toronto.

Be sure to stop by and say hi when you are at the show.

Can you tell me how the display models are powered?

I received an email today from a customer, and thought that this was a great question that deserved to be shared.

Mike asked:
Can you tell me how the display models are powered? I want to practise with my new Elite DSI in my house. Thanks in advance, Mike

Although we have had powered displays at the store since we first opened, we take their operation for granted,  but as I thought about Mike’s question, I realise that this is something most people will not know.

Alinco DM-330MV Power Supply

For most of our displays items that require 12 volt power, we use the Alinco DM-330 MV power supply. This allows using mobile apparatus on household power.
See it here.

For our display, where many units are powered on at the same time, this power supply can provide up to 32 amps of current.

For the user powering one or two devices, you would not need such a powerful supply (although you’ll have plenty of reserve power), so, in Mike’s case, he could look at a lower current power supply like this one.

Pyramid PS9K Power Supply

To see Radioworld’s full line of power supplies, look here. If you are not sure what the right power supply is for your situation, just send us an email  like Mike did, and we will be happy to offer some suggestions.

New Ice Fishing Electronics For 2013

Humminbird’s flashers haven’t changed for the upcoming season but they have added a new model to their LCD sonar/GPS units.  The ICE 597 ci HD is a large screen 5″ GPS/sonar unit with a flasher mode.  This unit has 4000 watts of peak to peak power and a 640×640 pixel screen.  The unit also has a 50 channel GPS and a SD card slot to accept detailed Navionics charts.  Not only with this unit find you the fish, but with the GPS it will also get you to them!

Lowrance’s X-67c Ice Machine was one of the most popular ice fishing sonar units of all time.  Its the LCD equivilant to the FL-8 flasher from vexilar as far as its popularity goes.  Well, all good things must come to an end, and Lowrance decided to cease production of the X-67c Ice Machine this year.  This paved the way for 2 new units from Lowrance the Elite-4 Ice Machine and Elite-4x Ice Machine.

These units are like superchaged X-67c’s with their 2400 watts of PTP power and 200/83kHz dual frequency transducer.  The Elite-4x is a sonar only model while the Elite-4 is a sonar/GPS unit.  This unit has a microSD card slot for Navionics charts and an internal GPS antenna.

MarCum’s 2013 product line has many new offerings in the LCD flasher and underwater camera markets.  Their LX-9 even combines both those features!  This is going to be their flagship model for 2013 on its 8″ flat panel 800×600 display platform.  This unit combines the top of the line sonar features of the LX-7 and top of the line camera features from the VS825 and wraps them in one awesome package.

The LX-6 is the younger brother to the LX-7 and boasts some very impressive features itself.  It is a 6″ display with a 640×480 resolution screen and 4800 watts of PTP power.  This unit can pick up targets that are 3/4″ apart with its fully adjustable zoom.  It also lets you control the ping rate of the transducer and screen scroll speed for instant updates.

On the underwater camera side of things you’ll find the 7″ colour VS385c and the black and white VS385.  They both have 800×480 pixel resolution screens and 75′ of camera cable.  A gel cell battery, 3 stage battery charger, and case are also included.

We are starting to receive our ice fishing orders and have stock on some of the mentioned product.  Give us a call 416-667-1000 to see if we have what you are looking for.

Outdoor Journal Radio – “Ask the Experts” at Radioworld

As most of you already know, Radioworld is the “Ask the Experts” co-host on Outdoor Journal Radio each Saturday morning on Sportsnet Radio AM590 Toronto!

Starting this Saturday, Radioworld will be canvassing it’s ProStaff in and around the Bay of Quinte, gathering their hints, tips and tricks, what’s hot and what’s not in catching TROPHY Walleye on these waters.

Why now? If you didn’t know already, the trophy walleye come late fall and winter and a little sacrifice in creature comforts go a long way to victory!

Each week myself or Lawren will talk about what is happening on the Bay right now, where they are biting and some results from the week prior.  To ensure you are not missing any opportunities we will post all of the information here on our blog and include pictures, names and contact information for every ProStaffer or Guide featured the following  Monday morning!

Radioworld is the proven experts in Fishing Electronics and we are counting on our Team to help you put more fish in the boat or provide a guiding opportunity for those without!

Just this week I recieved multiple emails from our Team talking about a wide variety of species including Musky, Salmon, Trout and Walleye (strange that no one mentioned bass)!  Here is one of the emails I received….

“I have been on the lake looking for early walleye.
So far I have been successful finding walleye in the 7 – 10 lb range.

Most of the fish have been found over 40 feet of water. My most productive speed has been 1.7 mph purple has been a hot color. Almost all fish have been coming of purple reef runners using in line boards.

There has been no better time the bite seems to be strong all day. I will be out again on the weekend.”

Another great product from DuraSafe!

While I am on the topic, the best product I have seen in a long time is the DuraSafe Universal Electronics Lock (UEL-50).

This is a gimbal knob lock that replaces the factory gimbal knob on most chartplotters and fishfinders from leading manufacturers including Humminbird, Lowrance, Garmin, Eagle to name a few.   The UEL-50 also fits most Marine Radios from leading manufacturers like Standard Horizon and Icom and most other devices which use a common U-Bracket/Gimbal knob set up.

The UEL-50 Gimbal lock is an excellent and inexpensive insurance policy to keep your electronics safe and deter simple theft of your expensive electronics.

At $25 each, the UEL-50 comes complete with locking mechanism and adapters to fit almost every product on the market. If you have several units on your boat, we can supply locks with common keys upon request!

I also give a personal endorsement for this product. I use them on my boat and on every display unit in the showroom and show displays!

Making life easier, one new product at a time!

I have to believe, like me, you are tired of hauling around a pocket full of keys every time you tow your trailer, whether it be your boat, ATV, Snowmobiles or whatever. In this day and age, sadly we have to lock everything possible, creating a nightmare key ring weighing down our pockets UNTIL NOW!!!

Radioworld has been partnered with DuraSafe Locks for two years now. Their exciting Codeable Locks use your Dodge/Chrysler, Ford or GM Tow Vehicle Keys for all of your trailer lock needs!

Whether it be a padlock, a receiver bolt lock, a cable lock  or a spare tire lock , Radioworld has the right fit for you.

Trust me… ONE KEY for my TRUCK and TRAILER needs!!!

2011 Sportsmens Show is in the books….

WOAH…. What an event the 2011 Toronto Sportsmens Show turned out to be! The Fishing Hall was chock full of the best in fishing electronics and related accessories from Lowrance, Humminbird, Garmin, Icom, Standard Horizon, Vexilar, FishHawk, Navionics,  Marcum and more! MinnKota Trolling Motors and the new MinnKota Talon was another big hit and the prices at the Radioworld booth were something that was not to be missed!

The rest of the Fishing Hall was filled with the widest selection of fishing rods, lures, line, boats, motors, downriggers and all good things fishing, plus a huge selection of ATV’s and those world famous Triton Trailers (they are the best for sure).

The Great Outdoors Seminar Stage was a HUGE HIT and featured the best in the industry talking to folks about fishing.
Bob Izumi was a big hit as always and shared some great stories with everyone. Bob was joined by friends Big Jim McLaughlin, Rocky Crawford and Radioworld ProStaffer Grant McAllister, all passing along fishing tips and techniquies to young and old all weekend long!

The Hunting Hall was also a big hit featuring some of the best Northern Wildlife exhibits I have ever seen.  Radioworld had a busy booth there as well, selling Game Cameras, Walkers Game Ear, Garmin GPS’s, Topo Software, Bushnell Binoculars, Spotting Scopes and Range Finders, SPOT Satellite Messengers, Swiss Army and Gerber knives and tools and some of the coolest solar power battery charging systems ever seen!

I have to thank the folks at Lowrance and Humminbird for assisting with an awesome ProStaff Team (Gerry Heels, Rick Weatherill – Lowrance)(Pete Bartonek – Humminbird) and my hats off to Team Humminbird and Team Garmin for a great showcase of products and ProStaffers at their corporate booths.

I also wanted to say thanks to a great show team. Bruce and Adam in the Hunting Hall, Lawren, Paul, Leo and Grant in the Fishing Hall…. You guys rock!

And to all my customers and friends… Thanks for making my weekend so enjoyable. I love my job…I love seeing all you people, laughing, telling stories and sharing lunches!
