Flex Radio demonstration for the Orangeville ARES Group

On October 12th, 2012 Radioworld was asked and attended the Orangeville ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) Group to present the lineup of software defined radios from Flex.

Sales Managers Tim Pacan and Leo Sweers attended, bringing a fully functioning Flex 5000 transceiver. Thanks to the group we had an antenna and soon found us on 40 Meters showing off all the great features of the Flex 5000.

The presentation also covered remote operation of a Flex station via an iPad and a Mac Book Pro, Everyone got a change to see how the remote operation worked, there were multiple devices connected to a single Flex 5000 transceiver located remotely.

The second half of the session, covered the new Flex 6000 series coming soon from Flex, the group was really excited to hear some of the great features coming out on these class leading products.

I would like to thank Jason Miles for the invitation and the great photos used in this article.

Radio Days Are Back: Ham Radio Licenses at an All-Time High

Foxnews recently reported that Amateur radio licences in the US are at an all time high!!!

“The newest trend in American communication isn’t  another smartphone from Apple or Google but one of the elder statesmen of  communication: Ham radio licenses are at an all time high, with over 700,000  licenses in the United  States, according to the Federal  Communications Commission.

Ham radio first took the nation by storm nearly a  hundred years ago. Last month the FCC logged 700,314 licenses, with nearly  40,000 new ones in the last five years. Compare that with 2005 when only 662,600  people hammed it up and you’ll see why the American Radio Relay League — the authority on all  things ham — is calling it a “golden age.”

What’s going on at Radioworld this month?

Well it has been awhile since I have had some time to sit down and write my thoughts down on a blog.  Things at Radioworld have been moving at a feverish pitch and show season was simply awesome!  It started early with the Outdoor Canada and DIY Show in November then the Toronto Boat Show, Spring Fishing and Boat Show, the Toronto Sportsmens Show and the Valley Spring Fishing Show with an Ice Fishing Seminar and BassTalk thrown into the mix along the way too!

Aside from the fishing and outdoor shows, the gang at Radioworld have attended the ATV/Snowmobile Show, 3 Motorcycle Shows, the Canadian Aviation Expo and 7 Ham Radio Shows since mid October 2010. A busy winter to day the least.
