Outdoor Journal Radio – “Ask the Experts” at Radioworld

As most of you already know, Radioworld is the “Ask the Experts” co-host on Outdoor Journal Radio each Saturday morning on Sportsnet Radio AM590 Toronto!

Starting this Saturday, Radioworld will be canvassing it’s ProStaff in and around the Bay of Quinte, gathering their hints, tips and tricks, what’s hot and what’s not in catching TROPHY Walleye on these waters.

Why now? If you didn’t know already, the trophy walleye come late fall and winter and a little sacrifice in creature comforts go a long way to victory!

Each week myself or Lawren will talk about what is happening on the Bay right now, where they are biting and some results from the week prior.  To ensure you are not missing any opportunities we will post all of the information here on our blog and include pictures, names and contact information for every ProStaffer or Guide featured the following  Monday morning!

Radioworld is the proven experts in Fishing Electronics and we are counting on our Team to help you put more fish in the boat or provide a guiding opportunity for those without!

Just this week I recieved multiple emails from our Team talking about a wide variety of species including Musky, Salmon, Trout and Walleye (strange that no one mentioned bass)!  Here is one of the emails I received….

“I have been on the lake looking for early walleye.
So far I have been successful finding walleye in the 7 – 10 lb range.

Most of the fish have been found over 40 feet of water. My most productive speed has been 1.7 mph purple has been a hot color. Almost all fish have been coming of purple reef runners using in line boards.

There has been no better time the bite seems to be strong all day. I will be out again on the weekend.”

Just back from Quinte

Well I spent the long weekend on the Bay of Quinte, doing a little fishing and “Getting Schooled” by the best in the game!  I attended the blast off and weigh-ins for the CSFL BassMania – Eastern Tour Events on the Bay of Quinte this past weekend.

Wow, what a clinic that was!  Great efforts, records smashed and the who’s who of competitive Bass Fishing!  One day one, 24 of the 75 teams weighed in over 20 lbs… an impressive feat for sure, however none better than Chris and Cory Johnston with an impressive 27.30 lb bag! (Bay of Quinte record)

27.3 lb record bag on Bay of Quinte!

Almost 3 lbs behind Chris and Cory, Mike Desforges and Doug Brownridge with an impressive bag at 24.5 lbs with Curtis Richardson (sponsored by Radioworld) and partner Rob Webster with 24.3 lbs for third place!

Day 2 results also came in through the roof with another large sack by Chris Giles and Jim Dodd! It was great seeing Bob and Darren Izumi on the water too, placing 3rd on Day 2!!

Day three was restricted to the Bay itself, which lead most to believe that it was going to be strictly bucket-mouths, but low and behold Chris and Cory came back strong on Day 3 weighing an impressive 20.7 lbs of smallies and one largie in the mix to take first place again!

Chris and Cory Johnston

Day 3 was a tired yet competive group with Paul and Larry Jones coming in second place just .2 lbs shy of the Johnstons and father/son team Jim and John MacDonald placing third at 19.3 lbs.

Many familiar names in the top 10 included Bob and Darren Izumi, Barry Graves and Jason Gough, Carey Miller and Andrew Jamieson, Pete Bartonek and Craig Sevink. You can get the complete lowdown by visiting www.bigfatbass.comSpecial thanks to all of our supporters. I appreciate all of the anglers that thanked Radioworld for our support. We are committed to each and every team and customer everyday!

Another great product from DuraSafe!

While I am on the topic, the best product I have seen in a long time is the DuraSafe Universal Electronics Lock (UEL-50).

This is a gimbal knob lock that replaces the factory gimbal knob on most chartplotters and fishfinders from leading manufacturers including Humminbird, Lowrance, Garmin, Eagle to name a few.   The UEL-50 also fits most Marine Radios from leading manufacturers like Standard Horizon and Icom and most other devices which use a common U-Bracket/Gimbal knob set up.

The UEL-50 Gimbal lock is an excellent and inexpensive insurance policy to keep your electronics safe and deter simple theft of your expensive electronics.

At $25 each, the UEL-50 comes complete with locking mechanism and adapters to fit almost every product on the market. If you have several units on your boat, we can supply locks with common keys upon request!

I also give a personal endorsement for this product. I use them on my boat and on every display unit in the showroom and show displays!

Making life easier, one new product at a time!

I have to believe, like me, you are tired of hauling around a pocket full of keys every time you tow your trailer, whether it be your boat, ATV, Snowmobiles or whatever. In this day and age, sadly we have to lock everything possible, creating a nightmare key ring weighing down our pockets UNTIL NOW!!!

Radioworld has been partnered with DuraSafe Locks for two years now. Their exciting Codeable Locks use your Dodge/Chrysler, Ford or GM Tow Vehicle Keys for all of your trailer lock needs!

Whether it be a padlock, a receiver bolt lock, a cable lock  or a spare tire lock , Radioworld has the right fit for you.

Trust me… ONE KEY for my TRUCK and TRAILER needs!!!

What’s going on at Radioworld this month?

Well it has been awhile since I have had some time to sit down and write my thoughts down on a blog.  Things at Radioworld have been moving at a feverish pitch and show season was simply awesome!  It started early with the Outdoor Canada and DIY Show in November then the Toronto Boat Show, Spring Fishing and Boat Show, the Toronto Sportsmens Show and the Valley Spring Fishing Show with an Ice Fishing Seminar and BassTalk thrown into the mix along the way too!

Aside from the fishing and outdoor shows, the gang at Radioworld have attended the ATV/Snowmobile Show, 3 Motorcycle Shows, the Canadian Aviation Expo and 7 Ham Radio Shows since mid October 2010. A busy winter to day the least.

With that behind us, what better way to spend May than to have a HUGE SALE and ending the month with a FREE BBQ and Open House!

This week (May 9th – 14th, 2011) is Icom Week at Radioworld. No Tax on any and all Icom products including Ham Radios, Marine Radios, Avionic Radios, Shortwave Radios, Communications Receivers, Commercial Radios, Power Supplies and related accessories! (a discount equivalent to the tax will be applied at time of sale).

An Icom Rep will be in store on Saturday May 14th from 10 am thru 3 pm.

May 16th through May 28th, Radioworld will host  our Annual Anniversary Sale. Everything in the store will be on sale and all accessories will be TAX FREE (a discount equivalent to the tax will be applied).

The best is yet to come… May 28th, 2011 we will be hosting an Open House with Manufacturers Reps on hand, extra discounts on selected items and a FREE BBQ Lunch for everyone from 11 am to 2 pm.

Come on by and meet my friends Angelo Viola and Peter Bowman from FishnCanada too!

2011 Sportsmens Show is in the books….

WOAH…. What an event the 2011 Toronto Sportsmens Show turned out to be! The Fishing Hall was chock full of the best in fishing electronics and related accessories from Lowrance, Humminbird, Garmin, Icom, Standard Horizon, Vexilar, FishHawk, Navionics,  Marcum and more! MinnKota Trolling Motors and the new MinnKota Talon was another big hit and the prices at the Radioworld booth were something that was not to be missed!

The rest of the Fishing Hall was filled with the widest selection of fishing rods, lures, line, boats, motors, downriggers and all good things fishing, plus a huge selection of ATV’s and those world famous Triton Trailers (they are the best for sure).

The Great Outdoors Seminar Stage was a HUGE HIT and featured the best in the industry talking to folks about fishing.
Bob Izumi was a big hit as always and shared some great stories with everyone. Bob was joined by friends Big Jim McLaughlin, Rocky Crawford and Radioworld ProStaffer Grant McAllister, all passing along fishing tips and techniquies to young and old all weekend long!

The Hunting Hall was also a big hit featuring some of the best Northern Wildlife exhibits I have ever seen.  Radioworld had a busy booth there as well, selling Game Cameras, Walkers Game Ear, Garmin GPS’s, Topo Software, Bushnell Binoculars, Spotting Scopes and Range Finders, SPOT Satellite Messengers, Swiss Army and Gerber knives and tools and some of the coolest solar power battery charging systems ever seen!

I have to thank the folks at Lowrance and Humminbird for assisting with an awesome ProStaff Team (Gerry Heels, Rick Weatherill – Lowrance)(Pete Bartonek – Humminbird) and my hats off to Team Humminbird and Team Garmin for a great showcase of products and ProStaffers at their corporate booths.

I also wanted to say thanks to a great show team. Bruce and Adam in the Hunting Hall, Lawren, Paul, Leo and Grant in the Fishing Hall…. You guys rock!

And to all my customers and friends… Thanks for making my weekend so enjoyable. I love my job…I love seeing all you people, laughing, telling stories and sharing lunches!

Spring Fishing and Boat Show

Anyone else tired of winter yet?   Well I am of mixed feelings for a few reasons. Firstly as a new sledder, I am really enjoying winter activities for the first time in my adult life!  Sure playing in the snow was fun as a kid… but in reality… it can really bite as we grow older!  The new sleds and the technical clothing made today makes life a lot more simple and enjoyable.

The next reason why I don’t mind winter is probably the more important one… “Show season”!  Most in the industry HATE the shows…but not me. It’s a great time to see what is new… its a better time to catch up with old friends and see those who we have not seen in awhile!

This coming weekend is the Spring Fishing and Boat Show being held at the International Centre in Mississauga!  Nothing gets the blood pumping more than knowing that Spring is around the corner and that open water fishing is coming soon!   This years show is going to be AWESOME.  Show Organizers Andy and Vita Pallotta have been working to put a bigger and better show together and the hype has never been better!

Radioworld will be there with a HUGE booth and prices are slashed to the bone!   We will have awesome deals on Lowrance products (even more savings the HDS units with HUGE Factory Rebates), Humminbird, Minn-Kota, Garmin, Navionics Ram Mounts, Vexilar, Marcum, Aqua-Vu. FishTV, FishHawk, Revere ComfortMax, GoPro, Contour HD, Icom, Standard Horizon, Cobra, Streamlight, Durasafe, GoLight, Gerber, Backroads Maps, TopoNav, Fugawi, SPOT, Globalstar Satellite Phones and more!!!

Don’t forget to pop in and visit us at the show and say hello!

See you there!

Jack

Great Outdoors and DIY Show

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each of you who came by the Radioworld booth at the Great Outdoors and DIY show this past weekend. I had a great time presenting my seminar on StructureScan and Side Imaging sonar along with my special guests Pete Bowman and Angelo Viola from Fish’n Canada. We had some great questions asked from those of you who were in the audience and I hope that you all learned something that will help you catch more fish.

The highlight of the weekend was having Jimmy Houston and Roland Martin stop by our booth and give us the rundown on the U.S. Reels we had on special. The technology behind these reels is revolutionary and I’m looking forward to trying one out on the water this year.

This show was a clear sign that ice fishing season is just around the corner as the St. Croix ice rod combos were a hot item. The Humminbird Ice Flashers were also very popular along with the FishTV underwater cameras. Speaking of ice fishing, back here at the store we are gearing up for the Ice Fishing Seminar and Sale we will be hosting on Saturday December 11th. You won’t want to miss this as we will have a handful of Ontario’s top ice fishermen on hand to answer your questions and give you tips on using your electronics this winter season.
