This past week I was privileged to travel to the Minelab Gold Detector Training session and spend time with Minelab trainers and industry experts in Las Vegas Nevada. It was a fantastic opportunity to train not only with Minelab Engineers and Trainers, but also with experienced detectorists in the Gold Basin of Arizona, near Lake Meade and the Nevada border.
I spent 3 days in a classroom setting going over the technical and user aspects of each machine, the settings for each soil condition and intricacies of each machine that make Minelab the World’s Best Metal Detectors and the Minelab GPX-5000 simply the best gold detector in the world. On the fourth day a large group of us headed into the Arizona Gold basin to gain practical experience and hunt for gold.
In the photo below I am using the Minelab Eureka Gold, a detector I found very manageable and easy to use. The ground showed low mineralisation so I had enabled the receive coil boost and the 60 kHz setting to ensure I capture small nuggets that many other machines simply miss.
Radioworld aims to give its customers the best possible chance of success with their new Gold Detector purchase . Success comes from knowing the detector, ground conditions and settings, as well as knowing where to look.
This was an amazing experience and I feel enriched for experiencing it. Minelab changes people’s fortunes!

If you’ll be in the Georgina area this Thursday February 7th 2013 be sure to check out this seminar by Wil Wegman and a bonus guest Gerry Heels on Ice Fishing!
If you can’t make this one but are going to the Sportsman’s Show in Toronto this weekend you can see Wil at 1pm on Friday the 8th talking Ice Fishing again.
For Immediate Release: January 28, 2013
Lake Simcoe: Former Focus on Fishing newspaper columnist for the Georgina Advocate and award winning outdoor writer Wil Wegman will be hosting another ice fishing seminar in the Town of Georgina. He will present on Thursday February 7th 2013 from 7pm to 9pm at the legendary Briars Resort, 55 Hedge Road, in, Jackson’s Point (www.briars.ca)
Wegman, who won the 2006 Perch Trap Attack on Simcoe was also a member of Team Canada at the World Ice Fishing Championships in 1991 and has had several top ten finishes in the Canadian Ice Fishing Championships. He won the Perchin for MS event with his son Izaak in 2011 and placed 3rd in 2012 when 200 teams competed. He taught ice fishing courses at Seneca College for 20 years and presents his popular ice fishing seminars from Sudbury to Toronto and from St Catharines to Ottawa. His ice fishing articles have been published in Ontario Out of Doors, Outdoor Canada, Real Fishing, In Fisherman, and Just Fishing magazines. Wil writes the Hooked on Fishing column for Lake Simcoe Living Magazine which is available around the lake at many local businesses.
Wegman is excited about returning to Georgina. “Last time we were here in 2011, every seat in the house was filled and we had standing room only. The crowd in Georgina is great – and many are well seasoned veterans just looking for a tip or two to help them ice more fish.”
Wegman’s power point presentation will focus on finesse ice fishing tactics with particular emphasis on how to catch more whitefish, lake trout, yellow perch and northern pike, from Lake Simcoe during the winter. “Lake Simcoe is a huge body of water and receives more fishing pressure than any other inland lake in the province. With all that hard water and all those other ice anglers, it can be a daunting lake to try and figure out. I hope ice anglers walk away from the evening having learned a thing or two to help them understand the lake and its fish a little more,” he said.
With that knowledge and the tips and tricks Wegman will reveal on how to catch those fish … ice anglers of all skill levels are sure to find the evening both entertaining and rewarding. I’m especially happy that Lowrance Electronics and Navionics rep Gerry Heels will accompany me and offer anglers some incredible insight into the sonar units used for ice fishing. He will also provide great tips on how to maximize the performance of these units while using the latest Navionics map chips during the winter”, said Wegman.
An incredible array of draw prizes will be awarded thanks to HT Tackle. Admission is free … however everyone is asked to bring an assortment of non-perishable food items for the local Georgina Food Bank.

Special “Thanks” to two great ladies for making this years event the “BIGGEST and BEST” Boat Show ever for Radioworld. First and foremost, hats off to Show Director Linda Waddell and her entire Team. Every facet from sign up through move-in, advertisings, overall look and feel and teardown went off without a hitch and the show and its people were firing on all cylinders. Crowds were spread out throughout the week and both weekends with thanks to that other special lady in our lives “Mother Nature”!
The Radioworld booth was our biggest and best yet, jammed pack with the best electronics money can buy! Garmin Marine systems were a big hit this year with the re-emerging power boat crowd with many happy customers purchasing full blown, chartplotter/sounder/radar systems in screen sizes from 7″ to 15″. Garmin handheld products were also a hot purchase this year too!
Marine Electronics in general were definitely a key component to this years event with many consumers taking considerable time in identifying their needs and allowing our Marine Electronics Experts fit their needs best. Simrad, Lowrance, Humminbird, Furuno and Standard Horizon Chartplotters and Sounders along with NMEA 2000 products including wind sensors, tank level monitors, fuel probes and engine monitoring systems sold like never before.
Our lost leader (Revere auto and manual inflation PFD’s) were also a big hit this weekend with 644 pieces sold over the 9 day event! (Our friends at the OPP will be glad to know that people are safety conscious)
Thanks again to The Toronto Boat Show Team, to a great staff for their tremendous effort over the past two weeks (in the store and at the show), to our vendors and ProStaff for their support and to those many customers that chose to spend their hard earned dollars at Radioworld.
Day 4 of the Toronto International Boat Show is now in the books and the crowds have been impressive. Saturday, Sunday and Monday crowds were wall to wall and plently of happy people are buying everything from boats to baubles!
If you are thinking about a new Chartplotter, Sounder, AutoPilot, Trolling Motor, Marine Transceiver or other marine related electronic device, drop in and visit our HUGE booth in the Marketplace.
